BADGES AND AWARDS

Scouts wouldn't be Scouts without our badges and we have a wide variety to signify different things. One thing all badges have in common is that they are used to recognise achivement. Even the world membership badge and group, district and county badges show that young people have completed the requirements of the membership award.

This page gives an overview of the types of badges. For some Scout section badges this page links to progress charts so Scouts can see what they need to do to complete each badge. The Scouts and Young Leaders also have a Virtual Wardrobe facility. Each of them has their shirt hanging in our virtual wardrobe with all the badges they have earnt sown on.

CHALLENGE BADGES AND TOP AWARDS

The most important badge in each section is the top award, the Chief Scouts Award for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and the highest award of all, the Queens Scout Award for Explorers and Networkers.

Beavers have the Bronze Chief Scout Award, Cubs the Silver, Scouts the Gold, Explorers the Platinum and Explorers and Networkers have the Diamond and Queens Scout Award.

The program for every section is made up of a very wide variety of activities. The activities are categorised into six program zones. For Beavers, Cubs and Scouts there is a challenge badge for each program zone. To complete a challenge badge a young person needs to demonstrate a level of competent in skills relevant to that zone.

Badges are required from every zone to complete the Chief Scout Awards. Outdoor and Adventure is such an important program zone for Scouts so they need to complete no less than three challenge badges from this program zone.

The first Six challenge badges are compulsory for any Scout who wants to complete the Chief Scout's Award. Two from the last three must also be completed.

STAGED ACTIVITY BADGES


Staged activity badges are used by all sections and the requirements are the same for each section. The badges work in stages (hence the name) so a six year old Beaver Scout with a Nights Away stage 1 can look at and understand a stage nine 125 Nights Away badge on the arm of a 17 year old Explorer Scout.

	The Nights Away Badge - Progress Chart The people who have the highest Score are the older Scouts who started with Stage 1 and 2 when they were Beavers and Cubs.

ACTIVITY BADGES

Activity badges are awarded for young people who can demonstrate a high level of skill, ability or knowledge in a specific area. In addition to the staged activity badges each section has a number of its own. There are twelve for the Beavers, thirty three for Cubs, sixty nine for Scouts and 28 for Explorers.
